Artist Biography
Frances Anderson was born and raised in Champaign, Illinois. Recently, she moved to Indianapolis, Indiana for college. She is a recent Cum Laude graduate at Butler University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Arts Administration with High Distinction. She also hold minors in Art History and Strategic Communication: PR and Advertising. Frances was first introduced to art at a young age. Growing up, she drew characters to go along with elaborate stories, a theme that is translated into her current work. She has been a self-taught artist up until her junior year of high school and has continued to grow in her artistic abilities at Butler and beyond.
Frances displays nostalgic themes throughout her work. She combines storybook characters and elements from her childhood with the use of a consistent muted color palette. The mediums she works with have changed throughout her career and are extensive. Her materials at the moment primarily focus on painting, photography and collage. Frances’s work is influenced by many artists including Yoshitomo Nara, Amy Ross, and Keith Haring. She also draws inspiration from her former art teachers and family members. Some of the Art shows she has been involved in are Butler University’s Art Now, the Eric Show in Champaign IL, Illinois Art Show, and AP Art, a student-designed art show located at the Art Coop in Champaign IL.
